Healthy communities are strong communities
Healthy communities aren’t possible if the people who live there don’t have access to essential health care services, such as dental care.
Newcomers to Canada may have trouble accessing the healthcare and dental system due to cultural and financial barriers.
The seniors in our communities may have spent their lives giving back to the community, but some are now unable to access dental care due to their reduced incomes.
Indigenous, racialized, and marginalized communities can face many systemic barriers when it comes to health and dental care, which negatively impacts their quality of life.
These are the people Nation’s Dental champion and advocate for.
Children from low-income families
The Canadian Dental Association found that in Canada, an estimated 2.26 million school days are missed each year due to dental-related illnesses.
Many low-income families simply can’t afford to visit a dentist or dental specialist until there’s an emergency.
Nation’s Dental helps overcome these issues through our In-School Oral Health Program by providing children from low-income families the support they need directly in their schools, at an affordable price.
We currently serve schools within the Calgary Catholic School District and FrancoSud.
Seniors
The state of seniors’ oral health heavily influences their overall well-being. Even though they face higher rates of dental problems, it can be hard for them to receive the care they need due to high costs, disabilities or conditions they live with, and transportation challenges.
Our Seniors Clinics aim to reduce these barriers, so that seniors living in the community can receive the quality, affordable dental care that they need to live a healthy life.
Priority populations
These groups often include racialized populations, the 2SLGBTQ+ community, people experiencing homelessness, low-income earners, newcomers, single parents, and those living with disabilities.
Marginalized groups often face unfair discrimination and exclusion in healthcare, which makes them more likely to have poor oral health. This is through no fault of their own but due to countless social barriers they face.
Nation’s Dental recognizes that communities can’t reach their full potential if people are left behind. With our mobile clinics that serve often under-represented populations, we aim to ensure everyone in our community can get the care they need and deserve.
